Well Water Testing
Culligan of Rockland offers two types of well water testing for home and business owners.
The first type of well water testing is Informational Testing. This type is used by people who are curious about the quality of the water they are using from a particular well. The water is collected by Jamie McIvor who is a certified water sampler for the National Testing Laboratory. The test results are reported directly to the customer and Culligan of Rockland. The results are reviewed over the phone or during an in-home visit. The test kit used will test for bacteria, heavy metals, aesthetic or physical characteristics, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and pesticides. A sample report can be viewed at
It is recommended that the full watercheck with pesticide option should be conducted every 3-5 years. Basic bacteria testing should be conducted annually. Please contact us for current pricing and collection times.
The second type of testing is regulatory Compliance Testing. The Rockland County Legislature passed the Rockland County Private Well Testing (PWT) Law in 2005. Click here for the full text of the law http://www.ecode360.com/9669882 . Compliance testing is required for all new wells. It is also required when a home is being rented and the structure is served by a private well. The well must be tested every 5 years when the property is being rented. The most common reason for this type of testing is for the sale of a home that has a private well. The law requires the home seller to have the water sampled within 10 days of receiving a signed contract from the buyers. The results from the water analysis are reported directly to the Rockland County Department of Health (RCDOH). The RCDOH will then issue a letter of compliance to the home seller to present to the home buyer. In the event that the water analysis reveals that a contaminant exceeds the maximum contaminant level (MCL), the home seller may remediate the problem and then have that single parameter re-tested.

The test results are reported to the Rockland County Department of Health (DOH) and a compliance letter is then sent to the property owner once the water is found to be within the acceptable limits. Homes for sale must have the water tested before or within 10 days of contract being signed. Rental properties must be tested once every 5 years.
The water must be sampled from inside the house or building. The samples are collected by Jamie McIvor who is a Certified Water Sampler for the National Testing Labs and a Water Quality Association Certified Water Specialist.
